I started a thread here a few days ago looking for advice on a new car, out of the cars i like I was advised to go for the Honda Civic.

I have about 3k so im looking at 07 or 08.

Now im wondering if you could help me out with whether I should go Diesel or petrol?

    2.2, 1.8 or 1.3?

Also anything else I may need to know about choosing one of these cars. Thanks guys.

Work is 25km each way, not motorway roads if that makes a difference. Also will be taking it for a few trips down the country once in a while and driving around town.

    Thanks for any info guys.

Paying the 2.2 rate if it’s on cc will become pretty irritating pretty fast ...

    07 - Petrol
    08 - Diesel

If all you look at is tax

I think the tax is the same on the 08 petrol 1.8 and diesel 2.2?

I had a petrol 1.8 and from a reliability point of view it was great and reasonably economical too.

Maybe consider the diesel, post 08 if you are doing a high mileage. I don't think they were completely trouble free though.

The clutch is the biggest fault on the 2.2 but outside of that they are pretty solid

I've an 08 diesel with 330,000km on it. Fantastic car. Apart from servicing and consumables, the only thing that needed replaced was the heater unit. Still on original clutch etc. and giving 55 to 58 mpg consistently.

I can only go on personal exerience - 1.8 petrol is a very reliable engine. All depends on your annual milage i suppose.

Is the timing chain not an issue on the 2.2 if the wrong oil was used? It's quite particular on the earlier Accord anyway

Correct oil is important, 0/30 castrol, have an 08 cdti accord here on 445000 km's, no rattles or smoke from the engine, clutch and flywheel changed at 440000 km's
