ATM Fraud No Pin

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but just looking for information as my head is wrecked thinking about this one.

I lost my credit card over the weekend in Dublin city centre and upon noticing this yesterday there was a cash withdrawl when i logged into my online banking. The cash withdrawl was after ot was stolen/lost.

I have looked up the ATM machine which was on my online banking and it doesnt appear to be the "standard" looking ATM.

The card was contactless and the amount withdrawn was in the hundreds but is there now a new type of credit card fraud where cash can be withdrawn without known the pin?

Well sure credit card can be used to buy stuff online without pin so they are surely numerous ways to turn a distance purchase into cash withdrawal

Could someone have shoulder surfed you and got your pin, then nicked your card?

Is it possible that someone saw/recorded you entering your pin somewhere and then stole the card from you?
Never heard of a pinless card.

Your probably right, its new to me though.

The only transactions was a cash withdrawl at the ATM nothing else.

Its funny how i could lose the card and soon afterwards its in the hands of someone with the ability to do that...

No one would have my pin and i havent used it in days.
Id never take cash out of the credit card.
I'm 100% sure no one got my pin.

Generally, you would need PIN and card for cash withdrawal from ATM.
There are other tokens that can be used, not sure about Ireland, but these would involve your mobile phone as well or some other device that you own.


Best thing is to contact your bank, see what the ATM is. You'll then have to contact the bank that owns the ATM, or if it's one of those ones in a shop, the vendor for the ATM. They can check the logs on the ATM to see in there was a PIN entry.

All ATM have cctv so it will be easily sorted out and you should have your money returned to you, one of mine works in fraud prevention and anti-money laundering in a financial institution and its amazing how ingenious the fraudsters are.

I have had similar happen to me before, the card was stolen and a transaction done over the internet to an account somewhere abroad labeled as "Ireland ATM". This was done about 10 minutes after the wallet was stolen, I hadn't even made it through on the phone to AIB yet to cancel the card.
You will have the money back in no time. Especially at an ATM where there is CCTV and they can see you didn't make the transaction.

I'm looking at the ATM that shoed up on my backing and it doesnt appear to have CCTV.
It the ATM at the side of the yellow building.

The cctv usually can't be seen for the obvious reason, they are often in the AtM machine its self, don't worry you will get you money returned to you.

Looks like the 2 camera's on the shop front are pointing away from the ATM, but most ATM's have cameras built in to them that you cannot even see. Lets hope this one does too.
