Oil boiler and efficient use of rads

Asking on behalf of my elderly parents as I haven't a clue.

Parents have an oil boiler with a programmable timer. Gun barrel piping in the house if that makes a difference.
The timer appears to have stopped being able to change the actual time so mum just turns it on whenever....
And then forgets to turn it off!!

I can't see an actual thermostat anywhere so the heating just goes on at some temperature. No trv on the rads.

What is the best way to improve this? Trv? Nest? Hive?

    Thanks for reading.

    new time clock

I could replace the need for the clock by using something techy though right? I'd like them to to have the option to turn in on whilst out and about.

And possibly set the hot water to come on. They use an electric shower and the immersion.

alot of older people just want the simple clock if you get them something techy they may find it frustrating , and you may find it frustrating if you are constantly getting asked to do something for them with the clock.

Have a chat to them on what they want to replace it.

To be honest mum would struggle with the simple clock in terms of bothering to set it.
I have a nest myself and she likes the ease of that.
I just don't know if it works in their setup
