    Hi All,

Recently put a 07 VW Jetta (1.6) through the NCT and its passed on everything bar emissions. I mentioned it to a friend and he suggested I use dipetane and bring it for a run, which I did. Retested and had the same result. Has anybody any advice as where I go from here?

Results of both tests are below.

    First test:

    Exhaust Emissions:
    Engine/Oil temp: 83 °C

    Low Idle (680 rpm)
    CO 0.26 vol% (Limit 0.30%) Pass
    HC 61 ppm Result = N/A

    High Idle (2,800 rpm)
Lambda: 0.99 (Pass Range: 0.97 to 1.03) Pass
    CO: 0.37 vol% ( Limit 0.20%) Fail
HC 65 ppm (Limit 200 ppm) Pass

    Retest:

    Exhaust Emissions:
    Engine/Oil temp: 103 °C

    Low Idle (647 rpm)
    CO 0.05 vol% (Limit 0.30%) Pass
    HC 44 ppm Result = N/A

    High Idle (2,793 rpm)
Lambda: 0.95 (Pass Range: 0.97 to 1.03) Fail
    CO: 1.45 vol% ( Limit 0.20%) Fail
HC 174 ppm (Limit 200 ppm) Pass

    Appreciate any advice or suggestions.

    Thanks

Retest high idle is much worse than initial test, did you park the car up with the engine running before the restest, this can cause high readings? Driving it at high revs for the week before the test is a good idea too, you were only really borderline fail on the first test.

Has the car been regularly serviced? Any idea when spark plugs or air filter were last changed?

The first test engine temperature was not on operating temperature.

You need to hook up the scanner and read the live data. The problem can be anything, no reason to speculate without that readings.
Any mechanic have a good scanner, including me.
