Disability Allowance and Employer

My wife has just been awarded disability allowance but she is still technically employed by her employer.

I presume my wife needs to let her employer know that she has been put on disability allowance but my question is, does she need to quit her job? It is unlikely she will be going back to work anytime in the next year but I was not sure if she should quit her job or not or should she wait until her employer dismisses her? I have asked Intreo and they say not sure

    Thanks again.

She doesn’t have to quit at all. Her boss might sack her. If the boss does sack her, she’s entitled to holidays for the time she was sending in sick notes.

Thanks splinter65, that is good to know. She has been ill for just over 1 year, and has not worked since.

Do I need to tell her employer that she has been awarded disability allowance, or will they somehow know that via wages dept.

    Thanks for the advice.

Has she been paid by her employer all this time? If she has, then her DA will be adjusted downwards. I assume you informed DA that she is being paid from work?
DA will not inform her employer that she is now in receipt of DA, wether she’s on sick pay or not, as it’s not in any way relevant to them.

Thanks again, she has not been paid by her employer during the last year as she had not worked long enough before becoming ill to be entitled to company sick pay.

Ok. No, her employer won’t know anything about her DA as it’s not relevant to them in any way.

Thanks for the information, I have decided to keep handing in her sick notes for now and leave it to them to make a decision.

    Thanks again
