    Hi All,
So last night I went through a checkpoint while driving the Mrs car with the NCT out of date by 9 months . Explained to the guard we missed the appointment back in Dec . anyway he told me I need to product NCT within 10 DAYS. So here's the real problem. I haven't been driving the car of late at all . Been struggling with depression TBH and mrs now drives. He also asked me to produce drivers license within 10 days. the problem is it's out of date - wait for it - 9 years and only learner driver license. I don't think I have time to renew and produce in 10 days, so basically i'm looking at a summons . the mrs has me down as a name driver for insurance just in case I ever needed to drive in emergency like last night . I can go to station and product NCT and insurance alright, but I'm in a mess over the out of date license. I was just about out of my 10 year depression battle when this happened so just need to know realistically what I'm facing in court fine or ban wise. Any advise would be helpful.

    cheers
    Tony

Nct expired 9 months but you only had an appointment in December for it and missed it? Lucky the guard didn't seize the car.

    Sounds like you're shafted.

You drove a car without NCT, without a license and without a license.

I'm amazed you weren't arrested on the spot.

Why do people always bring their personal circumstances into these threads? Sorry, but they're not relevant and won't make a blind bit of difference to your outcome.

    Speak to a solicitor.
Get your NCT asap. Why hasn't your wife been on top of this?
Get a new Learner Permit asap.

No license = no valid insurance

A number of summonses on the way to you.

If found guilty of no insurance you're facing a ban. Any future insurance premiums for you will be unaffordable.

How is your driving license 9 years out of date and you are still insured??

He's not. He would have had to lie on the insurance form. In which case it's void.

He has no insurance. And he never had a license either, his learner permit is 9 years out of date.

Absolute shambles, these people should be locked up.

whow !! looks like I'm rightly goosed!! actually the guard was alright let me drive off and told me the out some air in the back wheel. looks like I need to act quick, but time is not on my side. 10 days to get everything !my own fault I suppose. what's the worst outcome that could happen to me ??? 6 months ban with 2k fine or worse? what if I produce the insurance and try and get the a quick nct , head down to the station and produce. I won't have time to get the driving license probably, but at least I might be to show 2 items .

I'm named on my husband's policy and he on mine - they always ask what kind of license does your partner hold (ie clean full Irish) and does s/he have any penalty points or convictions. It's one of the routine questions.

Next time you're on the phone getting an insurance quote, at the end of the end the operator will say that the insurance is based on particular assumptions, it's their way of covering themselves.

I'm always a bit sceptical when someone signs up and on the same day posts something like this. Usually drip feed information bit by bit.

But if it is genuine, then OP, you were not insured. Doesn't matter if you show the Guards the documents. You have no licence.

    Talk to a solicitor.

Depression or not you knew the state of your license and the NCT.

A December appointment was still 8 month after the NCT expired. And are you seriously trying to say that your license was not renewed in 9 years because of depression? I'd be inclined to say pull the other one. Is your wife incapable of carrying out such basic every day responsibilities as well?

Unlikely, large fine and ban. Get your head right and don't do it again. Mind yourself.
