Have a 1.6 151 VW Golf R line edition with 65000 miles or 104000km. Wife driving it. Shes in a new job since jan 18 and driving up the mileage on it. We have 3 little people and need something to fit 3 car seats and is economical and comfortable for the big milles. Do i go new/2nd hand, hybrid/diesel, Car/SUV/MPV what size engine?
Low milage 18 reg diesel car that can fit car seats. Budget of €20k + trade for golf.
    Any ideas appreciated...
    Thanks

How long do you plan on keeping the car, or are there plans for more ickle wans?
MPV would make the most sense, economically, but if there are long term plans that involve the need for a seven seater, then it's worth knowing that the vast majority of "seven seaters" these days (looking at you, scenics and qashqais....) will only allow kids in the back row, provided they've had their legs amputated by the age of three....

The bigger, proper seven seat cars like the Espace or the Galaxy aren't as common any more but the Seat Alhambra has a neat party trick: Sliding doors....

Three baby seats inside and those doors will be worth their weight in gold..
And the two seats at the back actually have space for non-amputated kids!
Haggle and you should get one the same year as the Golf.

If you like the Golf then maybe look at the 7 seater Tiguan Allspace.

Skoda Kodiaq would very similar to the Tiguan Allspace too:

I brought a 181 allspace comfortline out for a spin yesterday. 2.0 l fine machine.
Sat nav and electric boot also.

Really like it. My big worry is it economical for long journeys for wifey..... the three little ones are 2yrs 5yrs and 6yrs...
I would love a car but im afraid there is none to fit 3 car seats that i am aware of.
Might have a look at the Kodiaq and the peugeot 5008...

    Anyone have opinions on them?

Both my sisters were in a similar predicament recently. There's surprisingly few choices out there when you need to fit 3 child (isofix) seats.

One of them had a Citroen Picasso already and never wanted to see another Citroen again (it gave her endless big bills).

Both of them bought a Kia Carens. They seem a decent car for what they are. Long warranty too for that peace of mind.

My sister went for the Picasso, purely for the fact that it accommodates 3 car seats. Dunno if she has had to pay any big bills yet though.

I went to look at few vehicles on sat with OH and the little people.... 🙈. Took the new Peugeot 5008 SUV out for a drive. 1.5 130BHP. Seats are individual in the back which are a big plus for fitting child seats. Looks nice from the outside. The interior is okayish. Jury is out with me on this as i thought it was a bit more sluggish than the 2L allspace 15bph.
The allspace doesnt have the individual car seats in the second row and was akward to get everyone in but it seemed like a better finished car. And it had the automatic tail gate which i found great. My fear is that OH will have a heartattack when shes on her long journeys that the all space will do something in the region of 45 to 50 miles per gallon where the peugeot will probably do 60 to the gallon..
Looked at the 5seater renault kolios. Nice machine inside and out but the child seats would be an issue. No Kodiaq cars in second hand when we went to dealer. My head is melted... could realy do with a 5 seater that will have room for 3 child seats for fuel economy reasons....
