    Hi All ,
I was wondering if I order tyres online, would any garage for them for a price or I need to get the tyres from them also.
Any recommendations for cheap Nissan micra 2008 tyres. I’m just looking for budgeting for passing my nct test due soon. Any advice would be appreciated

i'd just price them locally. €15 a corner fitting will probably decimate any savings on a €40-€50 tyre bought online in the 14.15" range, particularly if you're only looking at budget brands anyway.

surely its not 15 per tyre fitting??

€10-€15 would be right for fitting and balancing.

At €10, it’s not really worth their while but many places would if they’re not doing anything else.

It's only worth it if getting a premium brand or decent tyre or tyre not stocked, I saved about 60(on fitting)/100(net total)€ rather than buying locally as they wanted 400€ (100€ a piece), was sale on the tyres too.

Don't be fooled by cheap tyres either, do you research on them, good brands with good ratings can be got for good prices, prices that would be pushed as 'cheap' local only difference been you'd get a woeful tyre to boot too locally.

Example, I recently needed one replaced cause I damaged the side wall, got it locally for 100€ rather than buying online for say 75€ plus 10€ fitting, 15€ savings but have to wait, have to bring to be fitted be driving on spare till then.

If you want to shop locally, shop around too, prices can vary wildly between places, one place wanted 120€ for the same tyre.

One thing about shopping around for tyres in b+m shops is it’s a pain because pretty much nowhere advertises their prices or what brands they do.

I paid 30 euro per tyre for fitting when I bought a set of premium brand run flats online. I expected it to only be 15 euro per corner but the fitter charged 30 euro as run flats are harder to fit apparently.

And those that do only narrow it down to a brand but not a model. Bridgestones for €60 a piece or Kumhos for €55.

In a lot of garages, that's cheap now, and if you get them fitted that cheap, you may also get charged for a new valve core, balancing, and the statutory disposal charge if you leave the old tyres with them for disposal.

A fitter has to be very good to remove a wheel, change the tyre, balance it and refit to the vehicle in under 15 minutes, and there's some seriously expensive equipment needed for tyre changing and balancing, and if front tyres are being fitted, it may also be appropriate to check the tracking, which will involve a ramp and some specialist equipment to check the wheel alignment, and if it's being done properly, 2 short test drives (before and after) to make sure that the tracking is right.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Yeah, you do forget it's 2.80 plus VAT for disposal alone now.

I’ve never seen tracking done for free (unless tyres bought at the time)

Correct, normal charge for tracking if no parts are required will be €40, but if gas has to be used to get track rod ends free to turn, or any parts are required, then the price will rise accordingly.

If a full set of 4 is supplied and fitted, the tracking will be checked as part of the price of the tyres, and the price will be discounted for 2 tyres.

My local place bumped their fitting price from 15 to 17.50 recently. It is fine. I still save money and am not getting strange looks when I ask model and production date of tyres they offer.

Twice in the past, even I asked age of their stock and after they confirmed they were fresh stock, car came out of te garage with 2 years old brand new tyres so I needed to buy more expensive tyres from their stock.

My experience with tyre places are not great in general. In the contrary never had any issue with tyres I ordered online, always fresh stock, correct size and no damage with them.

The last time I ordered tyres online (from oponeo) when they arrived, they were older than the tyres coming off the car. The car was 162 and I bought the tyres in August 17. I don't think any of the big tyre sites offer an age guarantee?

Eiretyres give a partial refund based on tyre age.

I got tyres online at around €90 saving for two and got them fitted balanced at €15/corner, took the old tyres home and will bring to recycling center on next trip so free rather than the garage disposal cost mentioned above

I used tyreleader and camskill in last 4-5 orders and none of tyres were older than 5-6 months.

Tyreleader mentions production date if it is an old stock(like DOT 2016) and prices are lower for those tyres than the fresh stock. I was leaving a note about potential old tyres in earlier orders but I even stopped doing that in last orders.

Still there is always possibility of old stock showing up in your doorstep but it was no different to me with a brick and mortar shop to be honest.

You still have to pay for any recycling or waste you bring to the council so its much of a muchness.

    Free how?

I'll be going to the recycling centre anyhow, why - do they charge additional for tyres?

EDIT - just checked with my local council recycling centre and up to 4 tyres are accepted with the usual €3 entrance fee (which I'll be paying anyhow)

I ordered two tyres off oponeo before and they both had different dates on them. Not a huge difference but it was interesting to see and they were still new enough to be acceptable.
If this was to happen in a tyre shop I would be asking for matching tyres just to be sure, however I had no issue with the oponeo tyres either.
