Hi Dok_Golf. Its a stained oak banister. I want to brighten up the colour

That varnish will not brighten it up. It puts a clear coat on top of whats already there. To brighten it requires the stain being sanded out of it so you are back to bare wood.

Cheers DOK_GOLF. So all it will do is make the handrail shinier?

Sorry just another question Dok_Golf. Would the varnish just need 2 coats straight onto the wood. No need for sanding, undercoats etc.

You should sand with something like 120 grit paper prior to first coat. Then hoover and wipe clean with damp cloth. Apply varnish. Repeat process 2nd time only use 240 grit this time. Repeat again if necessary

OP, the varnish you have the link too is teak coloured, which will darken the wood, it's clear varnish you need.
