Distorted picture on some DVDs on new HD TV

I'm not at all tech savvy so hoping someone can help!

I recently got a new HD TV. I use my DVD player every day to do exercise DVDs. Since I got the new TV one set of DVDs (all part of the same exercise programme) is showing a distorted picture - almost but not quite black and white and with vertical green and red stripes. I can still watch/follow them but it's annoying and it's only these DVDs, all others are working perfectly.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Sounds to me like it's possibly an NTSC DVD?

Or a DVD that may not function in your DVD player, can you look at the back of the box and see what region the DVD is from?

How are you connecting the DVD player to the new TV and how did you do it with the old one? Is the picture still good if you try on the old one?

Fielding, I don't see anything on the DVDs or the box re region. They worked perfectly with the old (non HD) tv though and it's the same DVD player.

TheChizler, the DVD player is connected to the new TV with a scart lead, same as previously. The old TV is gone so can't try that.

Just seems strange that any other DVD I've tried is perfect besides those in this set!

I somehow missed that other DVDs worked fine. Try messing around with colour settings on the DVD player and TV, RGB vs composite vs YPbPr those kind of settings. Could be an NTSC disk.

How are you connecting it to your new HDTV?

    Scart/RedWhiteYellow or HDMI cable?

    Thank you both for responding.

Fieldog, it's just a regular scart as far as I can tell (not helpful I know but it could be a stick of liquorice, I couldn't tell the difference!).

You both mentioned NTSC discs - I checked the settings on the DVD - it showed the NTSC disc output as PAL60 - I changed this to the other option, NTSC, and it worked - the DVDs are playing perfectly! I also checked a few other discs and the are all fine. I'm delighted as the odd picture was irritating me as I worked out!

I really appreciate you both taking the time to provide help and advice, it's very much appreciated.
