    No longer this

    blog_490703_2503970_1405597817-300x184.jpg

    Now, this

    00116240-614.jpg

Wesite and mobile app have been updated today and planes will be gradually repained over their normal re-paint schedule.

Air hostesses getting new uniforms, later this year

Over 50 new shamrock designs were considered as part of the brand refresh process. Aer Lingus says
The shamrock has been given a tilt, which symbolizes "dynamism and speed", while the heart shaped leaves have been made more pronounced, "reflecting the warmth and hospitality" of the brand.

This is all costing €2 Million

Is it just me or does it actually look cheaper?

I loved the green Aer Lingus livery. :( It's rare to see planes with mostly green paintwork.

Only €2 millions seems great value, all the internal graphics on the planes will also have to be changed.

To be fair, €2 million is a lot less than I'd expect this kind of thing to be.

I agree....it looks less Irish and will now just blend into the background of in airport with a billion planes of a bazillion other generic designs!

    I call a protest!

Looks similar to the air contractors planes that aer lingus leased when I flew to the states with them a few years ago

I'm wondering how much they will now save on each plane by not having to put the traditional green branding all across it.

50 shamrock designs and they went with a reversed one of current one... :pac:

Yes it should save money there but they will have to de-green the current fleet which I would think wouldn't be cheap especially going from a dark colour to white.

As for the new livery, it looks fine. Have a soft spot for the half green though. Love the marketing buzzwords and spin on why things were changed up. Someone earned a decent paypacket for tilting the shamrock.

    🤪

Tbf I couldn't care less what the outside of the plane looks like, price of flights is more important to me. Marketing bullsh1t is just that imo, trivial bells and whistles.

I wouldn’t mind if they got rid of the yellow plastic inside the cabin, it’s like sitting in McDonalds

    It's puke inducing.

As for the Aer Finglas re-brand, I think it looks well but the green stands out more as someone else said.

The newer planes have a lot less yellow inside thankfully.

Used to be comforting seeing the green of an aer lingus aircraft when abroad. No longer identifiable as an Irish Airline.

    +1, too white.

Other than the marketing team does anyone actually care about the slight change to the shamrock

I dislike the Fisher-price toy interior, but grit my teeth and stick it out. It's not like I'm going to be there forever looking at it.

Exactly. Anyone worried about the decor inside an aeroplane hasn't much to be worried about.

As someone who averages flying over 100,000 miles a year, I'll argue that point. The interior isn't just about the size and shape of the seats, the overall 'mood', for lack of a better term, also sets the tone for the flight. There's been quite a bit of effort spend on things like interior tonal lighting and color schemes. Now, if you're just sitting on a 90 minute hop on Ryanair for holiday, sure, that's less of an issue, but if you're running long legs for work, you'll be surprised the difference it can make.

At least it's cheaper than the 6million pound italic they came out with last rebranding, but I definetely prefer the green. You know at a glance it's an Aer Lingus aircraft, and seeing the green fuselage at San Francisco, I almost feel home already.

The €2 million doesn't include repainting the planes I'd imagine. Any new planes being delivered will have the new paint scheme, the rest will only get it when they're due a repaint.

Stick in some headphones and lie back. It doesn't matter what colour the interior is. I've done it all myself for work before and none of us are as important as we think just because we see a few more airports than other people.

I have to say I'm disappointed they've diluted the green on the planes.... It's just meh now....try picking that out of a line-up at any airport, €2m+ just to blend in.

I like the new branding, very welcoming.

The old branding was disgusting, the dark shade of green made me queasy, not a feeling you want before a flight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,593 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

    Don't like it.
The whole purpose of branding is to make your product stand out. The green aircraft definitely stood out.
Your could show the livery of a number of airlines without the airline name on it and I would say that Aer Lingus would most likely have been the most recognised.

It seems to have been a lot of money spent to go backwards into the crowd.

Being mostly white it's probably cheaper, like An Post vans are now white with a vinyl stuck to them, cheaper than having the manufacturer spraying them an odd shade of green all over.

Not much. Some masking tape or whatnot , and the cost difference in the paint.

Ever extra gram costs money in fuel so Aircraft will use the least paint possible. It's not like they use extra paint for the green.

IIRC if you use no paint the savings are matched by the cost of the extra polishing.

And +1 on the upper green fuselage making the planes stand out.

All white fuselages are two a penny, it looks cheap.
Even Ryanair paint their fuselages. And Easyjet use lots of hi-vis Orange.

If the plan is to re brand as yet another generic IAG subsidiary then it works. :(

Why bother making any public space look nice then? Some of us appreciate when places and things are aesthetically-pleasing.

What a weird take on someone outlining why aesthetics matter to them. You’re a most unusual chap. The things you take umbrage with are bizarre.

It's the inside of a budget airline plane, not the Lourve.

And yet I bet it would still be possible to improve its appearance without extra cost. If it’s possible, why not do so? Is yellow plastic cheaper?

Makes no difference to people who don’t care what the plane interior looks like but makes for a more pleasant journey for others. Who would object to that?

Pretty costs money, if you want more salubrious surrounds use another airline. Want antimacassars and something to keep your belongings in front of you, go elsewhere.

Ryanair operates buses with wings, no more, no less.

Not necessarily. Ryanair went with yellow to suit their branding. I bet there was a more muted colour that would have worked out just as cheaply. Literally just swapping out the yellow plastic for something more pleasing would have made a huge difference. If they had plumped for navy plastic wherever they put yellow, say, when they were kitting out the plane interiors. That one thing alone would have greatly improved aesthetics and I doubt it would have worked out more expensive. Nobody is asking for frou-frou seat covers here. Just pick a more relaxing colour for the plastic-y bits.

Funny you should mention buses. I used to regularly get the Aircoach express from Cork to Dublin and back. Cheap as chips and their coach interiors were very nice and relaxing. Comfy, black leather (or maybe leatherette) seating, with plain grey carpeting and walls. Simple and classy. It can be done.

Whatever about the white it's the turquoise on the tail that I don't like. Would have preferred a proper shade of green also the font is weird. I know some don't like having it mostly white but the majority of airlines paint planes predominantly white for safety reasons as white shows up damage easier, makes the plane less prone to bird strikes, it reflects light making the plane less to heat up as a result of sunlight and is also cheaper to paint.

According to this article anyway. Is this going to done over the course of the standard Aer Lingus repainting cycle how often are planes generally repainted?
