Hi guys, I'm hoping you guys can help us out.

For the past 4 days our Peugeot 306 won't start, everytime we turned the key, the engine just cranked and made the sound a car does when it won't start.

    Any ideas?

as its petrol, check for fuel pressure & spark

I don't understand what you mean by fuel pressure but we checked the spark, that is fine.

We are not 100% yet but we are thinking it could be the battery.

Have you been able to start it at all?

    How old is battery?
Will it start if you jumpstart it?

No, pretty old and nope, we tried that and still it won't start.

I suppose its time to get a pro in to have a look.
Do you have roadside assistance on your insurance? Plenty of companies have assistance at homer when car won't start. Check with your insurer, or T&Cs

Its not my car, its our parents. I'm just on here on behalf of them.

If you have a spark, then that rules out the crankshaft sensor - a common enough fault.
Is there a little red light on the dash anywhere that flashes while the car is off? Does it flash much faster when attempting to start? If so, there could be a problem with the immobiliser.
That'd be cutting off the fuel.

If the flashing doesn't change, or stops, it's not that.
But it could be a faulty pump, so if you don't hear any buzzing/whirring noises under the back seats when you turn the ignition on, then the problem lies there

Oh, actually, French petrols are fond of their inertia fuel cut off switches they look like this.

But I'm not sure where they are on your car. Usually around the engine bay, failing that, have a rummage around the fuse box(es).
All you need to do is see if the flexible rubber head pushes in, the odd time they pop out.

If it's out, problem solved! If it's in, then go back to listening to the rear seats...

Does your 306 use a keypad as an immobilizer?

    Yeah.

    Yeah.

Could be a right pain sourcing a new kit if necessary...

But, a lot of these problems are wiring related. Something is niggling me about a connection block for the immobilizer above the throttle pedal, worth checking it out (if the block is there) and cleaning it up.

If you get the car started rip that code keypad out while the car is running, unplug it and fire it in the bin; shouldn't cause any more issues after that. That's how I bypassed a 106 many moons ago.

If only it were diesel, bypassing it is a doddle!
