Why in God's name are they showing this at 10.15 on a Tuesday? Over at midnight?

Surely it makes more sense to put it back to half 9?

I imagine it is due to them not wanting it clashing with Prime Time but we have known the Brexit vote was scheduled today so why not put the show on the Monday or Wednesday.

    RTE are really ridiculous.

Same with drama series like Suits, Walking Dead etc. All broadcasted at almost midnight.

Great to see this side of her.

What did she say the reason for the split with her father was? I wasn't paying attention.

Shes a phenomenal lady and this is a fantastic documentary.

Very very sad what happened with Pete but the rift is very understandable considering events that transpired afterwards.

Very noticeable how the new trainer has made such a difference since she went pro. The change was exactly what she needed to do.

    Something to do with integrity.

Katie is great and I'd love to see her make good money. She's a fantastic talent and a great role model for young girls.

I don't think she went into detail but the reason was because he left her mother and went off with Katie's friend, something like that.

She is well rid of his company at least, seems like he has a lot of bad connections

Her father had left the mother for a young lady at the time but i would say there is probably even more to it than that. The shooting would suggest he is involved with some shady characters these times.

    It's very good so far.

She's admirable in her single mindedness :)

More than a hint of loneliness though.

Not that it matters but she's a beautiful looking girl.

As Talking Bread said crazy it's on late on a Tuesday night. Considering some of the rubbish put on at prime time slots.

Way better than that rubbish on Sunday nights supposedly about the War of Independence.

Well it is easy to see where she got all her holy mary's and our fathers from!

I wonder is Pete still a Christian.. he's definitely not practicing!

I'd put Katie ahead of Sonia O'Sullivan, as Ireland's greatest ever female athlete. Top of her game since 2006, with only the Rio, family problems, blip.

She's up there with the best Irish male sports stars too.

I admire her faith and fearlessness in speaking about it in a very secular world. Great strength of character.

I think you need to look at the Gillette ad for some re-education.

I thought this was beautifully shot, cinematic.

It was nice to see that side of Katie, a real inspiration and role model for young girls.

She is truly someone that is role model.
Fantastic determination and dive to get where she is now.
The sole focus of boxing does seem to have some isolation, but she seems to have a good core of friends and family.

I hope she gets the chance to unify the division against Delfine Persoon. That will be a hell of a fight.

Katie is a fabulous role model for young women in sport - dedicated, humble, works hard, talented n full of integrity - I think she’s great n it’s a real pity it was on so late

The level of competition Sonia was up against was far higher. Not Katie's fault but the depth of talent in women's boxing is not great.

True enough. Sonia overcame the Olympics in Atlanta really well too, double World Cross Country winner 1998 and silver in Sydney.

I'd go so far as to say Katie might be worthy of the title of Irelands greatest ever sports person.

That’s of course true. I haven’t watched the doc yet, but I hope it gave an insight into the incredible determination Taylor had to summon just to get started in her sport. She faced a lot of hostility from those even within her own association, just to be recognised as a competitive boxer. Whatever his status now, her father played a critical role in that journey too.

I don’t personally see the need to compare or contrast her with Sonia. Every journey is unique in its own way and we were blessed to have two remarkable athletes like them.

Katie is a great role model for young Irish girls.
However when it comes to boxing she's missing the personality to be a media darling .
She admits she hates dealing with the media side of things .
A huge part of boxing is outside the ring as in selling a fight .
She's probably to nice a person for the fight game .
It's going to be extremely difficult for her to make anywhere near what a male boxer with half her talent can.

She has trouble promoting a fight in a 'bad girl' way. Big contrast with Mr. McGregor! Hopefully she still makes a lot of money, so deserved.

She’s comfortably clearing 500k a year as it is, probably closer to 1m with various add ons. Of course it will never be anything comparable to the earning power her male counterparts can command, but only a couple of years ago we were being told there was no money or interest in women’s pro boxing and she was stupid to even think of going down that route. Financially she is doing excellently in the circumstances.

Glad to hear that, i'd no real idea of what she was pulling in. She'll be 33 this year so will be hard to stay at the top beyond 35..you'd imagine anyway.

She says she can go on into her 40s so who knows? Would you doubt her? I suppose it will depend on the level of competition as to her staying power. None of the current title holders can touch her I believe, but there are a few just starting out who will pose threats and the standard will keep rising by the year. I’d hope she’s good for another 3-4 years anyway but it will get tougher.

Fighters have been in the ring in their 50s but the trick, as always, is knowing when you’re only cheating time. But Katie Taylor is a supremely conditioned athlete, non drinker/smoker/everything really, has a top class training regime and hasn’t suffered undue punishment over the course of her career. Should be 5-6 good years ahead no problem to her.

I loved the bit when she said she'd go on for another 10 years and laughed. I hope she does though, if she still wants to. God knows she's putting the hard work in.

Beautiful girl and fantastic role model.

    I enjoyed it..

The whole Katie pretending to be a boy to get fights..

Well documented. But not sure how true it is, or to what extent it occurred.

Anyway, nobody comes out to question it?

If true then her father and team are a disgrace to both deceive people, deceive the sport, and far more importantly, put a young girl in potentially very dangerous scenarios...

Not a Katie criticism, as she was a child.

That’s always been my take on it...

Finally got round to watching documentary last night. Rather excellent. Really gives an idea of the sheer pain of the summer 2016, right through the family and of the sheer, relentless determination Taylor evinces as a person and athlete. Even following her career closely for the guts of 20 years these things still came out as revelatory.

On the boxing as male, my take is simply they did what they had to do to counter deeply institutionalised prejudice. All she has achieved since and the changes she has wrought are a solid justification for what they did. None of it might have happened without it. I don’t live in the kind of black and white world others inhabit to judge them harshly on that.
