I went in September 2018. I used both my Revolut card and AIB card and just withdrew Dong as needed. I found most restaurants and hotels take card too. I was never requested specifically to pay in dollars.

    Any other questions just ask.

In Danang and Hoi An taxis and tour guides were happy to take dollars - bring lots of $1 notes for tips. You're better off using dong in shops and restaurants though. For a four week trip, I brought $200 with me and brought €100 back home!

We did find that in HCMC people were almost insulted to be offered dollars - even in tips, so we stuck to dong. (Probably it's like American tourists trying to spend sterling here - we stopped offering dollars very quickly!). We just withdrew cash as we needed it. You can't change it back to foreign currency so don't take loads out towards the end of your trip - I suppose that's the reason that the souvenir shops in the airport do such a roaring trade!

If all your accommodation, excursions and food have been paid for, then you could easily survive on €25 per day (or far less if you're thrifty) - unless you're going to spend loads on souvenirs or drink in more upmarket, touristy places.

Hi, I've been going to Vietnam for years, bring euro with you m be crazy changing € into $ into dong, if you want to tip( 20,000 to 50,000dong) is fine, tipping isn't in the Vietnamese way but appreciated, you can change € at the airport( get you by for a few day so) rate is ok and wait till you get into town to change more.
If all the big ticket items are paid for all you need is money for drinks and souvenirs, I'd say €500 cash would do you always handy to bring a bit extra for two weeks. Dong goes along way just get used to the 0000s in the money as the Vietnamese are great at bamboozling ya, it's a great country lovely people fantastic food ....

It's a closed currency and "not available" outside Vietnam. You're not supposed to take any with you when you leave either
