Rooting Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus

    Hi

I wish to root my galaxy S8 plus. However, if I understand it correctly, one of the steps in the rooting process is to wipe data on the phone which has the effect of performing a factory reset and restoring the phone to its original state (i.e. without any self installed apps or data).

Can anyone please advise as to whether it is somehow possible to root the galaxy s8 plus without having to delete the data that is on the phone?

    Thanks in advance

    Not possible.

Is this really the case? I am asking because from what I have read on the internet, it seems to be the act of "unlocking the bootloader" which wipes the phone and not rooting. I think that I have already unlocked the bootloader because in developer settings there is an option for "OEM unlock" which I can activate.

However, when I look at the steps for rooting the phone, it seems to me that after installing SuperSU, I will need to then again wipe data. I had thought that it might be possible to avoid that step.

Here is the step I am referring to:

"Once you've installed SuperSU you'll have an option to wipe cache/dalvik and an option to reboot system. Wipe the cache/dalvik, hit the back button, and hit the reboot system button."

First the setting in developer options, is only the trigger to allow bootloader unlocking, it doesn't unlock the device.

Check your bootloader status with this command (in fastboot mode, if you know how?): -

    fastboot oem device-info

If it is unlocked, then there is no need to wipe data.

Second SuperSu is obsolete and no longer been developed. Try using Magisk instead.

Third option to wipe cache/dalvik says nothing about actually wiping data, they are different partitions.

    Thanks for the help!

Whats the big deal though? Iv been through 6 phones in 2018 and wiped and restarted on a few them a few times. Takes me about an hour to get up and running again. Apps and their data are obviously backed up automatically. Calls and txts backed up automatically. Contacts, photos, WhatsApp. My music is on the laptop and i re transfer it every time. What data do you have thats so precious your afraid to wipe but don't have it backed up?

Get Dropbox or one drive and start syncing your photos. You can set it to do only over WiFi.

Can't really think why else someone will be hesitant to wipe their phone.
