Indoor kitten first time in heat

    Hi all,

I'm pretty sure my female kitten is in the heat for the first time (that I've noticed anyway). She's 6 1/2 - 7 months old and I was just about to look into getting her spayed, when I noticed her textbook "in heat" behaviours such as being extra vocal, rolling around on the floor pretty constantly, walking a little funny some of the time & being more affectionate.
Her brother was neutered back in late October because the vet reckoned he was good to go whereas she was still a little young/small for a pretty invasive procedure but this way we could still avoid the possibility of kittens.
I've only noticed this behaviour over the past 2 or 3 days so I think we're still in the early days of this, but I was just wondering if there's anything I should be doing or looking out for, or even preparing for? Anything I need to worry about in relation to her or him or even them getting along? Or is it no big deal & I just leave her to it?

They're both exclusively indoors for the time being & she will be spayed in the next few weeks (when I get my finger out and make the bloody appointment lol)

This is completely new to me as I've never had kittens before (and adopted two of them, for my sins :P) but would really appreciate any advice.

    Thanks!

We had the same when we first got our two, although they were both girls and both came into season together. We didn't really know how old they were so weren't really expecting it.

The main thing is to make certain that she can't get outside during this time, and believe me she will try. Things can get pretty noisy too!

When I got two siblings years ago I was told they were both girls. Found one atop the other clearly not both girls and they were off to the vet asap.

Thankfully the girl was not amenable.

    And yes, lock her up!
