Leave it blank. Then they’ll right back to you in about 4 weeks and ask you to send evidence of your savings and investments. By then they’ll know how many accounts you have and what’s in them but they’ll want you to tell them anyway.

As you have the application form, you will also have seen that you will be signing the following declaration:

All capital (savings and investments) is taken into account for medical card purposes. However, income from savings, investments or property of €36,000 for a single person or €72,000 for a couple is disregarded.For amounts over the disregard limits, interest is taken into account in the means test. Savings and similar investments of €36,000 for a single person and €72,000 for a couple are disregarded. A notional rate of interest is applied by the HSE to the balance. Alternatively, the HSE will apply the actual rate if you provide a certificate of interest paid on savings in the last full calendar year...

The savings disregard for Medical Cards is €36000 for a single person and €72000 for a couple. Also it’s not true that if you have anymore savings then that you won’t get the medical card. None of that post was correct apart from the lying being illegal.

If you have €55,000 savings:
The first €20,000 is assessed as nil, €20,000 to €30,000 is assessed as €10, €30,000 to €40,000 is assessed as €20, €40,000 and €55,000 is assessed as €60.
€10 + €20 + €60 = €90
Savings of €55,000 gives a means of €90 per week.

These amounts are not the correct ones for medical card means testing. See amounts set out at Posts No. 13 and 11 above for correct figures.
