Neighbours springs to mind, a lot of the cast went onto successful US TV/Film and music careers

    Only Aniston had lasting success.

They're still household names though. They still get something like $20m each every year from syndication agreement.

Even though most of them do limited mainstream acting these days (apart from Aniston and LeBlanc), they're still among the most well known actors on TV.

There's a difference between which TV shows were the making of stars and which produced lots of stars.

Home & Away has produced many stars such as Guy Pearce, Heath Ledger, Naomi Watts but it was their subsequent projects that propelled them to stardom.

Early 80's flick 'The Outsiders' had a pretty amazing cast of then-unknown actors, all of whom went on to be huge stars, some SUPER Stars.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Outsiders_(film)

    C. Thomas Howell
    Matt Dillon
    Ralph Macchio
    Patrick Swayze
    Rob Lowe
    Emilio Estevez
    Tom Cruise
    Diane Lane

    Tom Cruise 7th billed. lol

I bet if you seen an image of any them you'd probably recognise. The one outsider may be Dave Allen as he is generally not a star or main star of anything, but he is in the background of loads of TV shows.

I'm pretty sure Guy Pearce was in Neighbours, not Home & Away, not to mention Neighbours spawned the Kiwi pugilist and his 'fightin' around the world' antics ;)

    Star Wars: A New Hope
    Harrison Ford
    Carrie Fisher
    Mark Hamill

I think they were all pretty much unknowns, Ford and Fisher went on to have long careers outside of SW and Mark Hamill is famous for being Luke :)

Idris is British and has an OBE. He's played the title role in a detective series called Luther which is hugely popular. Was also mentioned possibly being the next James Bond.

Of the 3 series (assuming they are all series) I've only heard of The Wire.
Of the actors involved, not one. I will admit to not owning a television (though I could watch them by other means). It just so happens I haven't seen any of them. You'll be really shocked when I tell you I've never seen
    Game of Thrones.

The Outsiders 1983 has a claim here, sure plenty had acted once or twice before but this seemed to act as a launch pad for

Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Diana Lane, Emilio Estevez, Sofia Coppola

Six of the Magnificent Seven were unknown or obscure in 1960 mind you a couple stayed that way which is why it's still a tricky quiz question!

Neighbours had at one time or another...

Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Margot Robbie, Natalie Imbruglia, Craig McLachlan, Jason Donovan, Holly Valance, Liam Hemsworth, Chris Hemsworth, and a whole host of ones in American TV series.

I am not allowed discuss …

I'd agree with all of them apart from Rachel Bilson. She was still relatively unknown after Buffy and it was The OC which made her a star.

I'll go with Dazed and confused (1993).

Well, it didn't perhaps 'make them stars' but it certiantly gave many 90's stars their break. Some have since faded into obscurity but others are still household names.

    Joey Lauren Adams
    Milla Jovovich
    Ben Affleck
    Parker Posey
    Matthew McConaughey
    Nicky Katt
    Renée Zellweger

I'd go for the original Twilight Zone. It had self contained episodes so allowed more scope for talent exposure.

William Shatner, Charles Bronson, Robert Duvall, Peter Falk, Dennis Hopper, Ron Howard, Martin Landau, Robert Redford, Leonard Nimoy, Burt Reynolds, Dick York all had roles in the series.

I think Idris Elba is a hugely overrated actor. Successful yes, but top actor? Not really. I hope he doesn't get the James Bond role not because I don't think a black person should play the role but I'd hate to see him get it because he's black but not actually worthy.

Can you spot them in the opening?

This line-up alone features Justin Timberlake, Keri Russell, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Ryan Gosling. They're all about 12 or 13 y/o. Except Russell who was about 16.

I didn't watch The Wire which brought him to prominence. He transitioned to film, I've seen him in a few, never had a lead role. The Brits talk him up all the time because he's one of theirs. He's good on the SKY TV adverts though.

    Jason Bateman
    Portia de Rossi
    Will Arnett
    Michael Cera
    Tony Hale
    David Cross
    Jeffrey Tambor
    Jessica Walter

I loved AD but I think this is a stretch.

Portia de Rossi breakthrough was on Ally Mc Beal.
Jessica Walter was in big roles in late 70s including being up for emmy and golden globe awards.
Jeffrey Tambor was regularly up for awards in 90s.
Jason Bateman was teen wolf two! Rake of roles in 80s but certainly AD resurrected his career and took it to another level.
