A neighbour was telling me you need to get annual checks/15,000 Kms checks on hyundai car to keep the warranty valid though they didn’t know what’s involved.

Anyone help that I can advise him/what to expect? Elderly guy not a boards user. Don’t know anything about it myself.

He prob should ask the garage but...

It'll be written in the service book.

It's just a VHC. Should be in and out swiftly.

The service intervals on most Hyundais are 30k kms or 2 years, which means the garage misses an opportunity to up sell to you every other year, so the health check was introduced to make sure you got in to them annually, or at least that's the cynical point of view.

It's just a quick lights and levels check, visual inspection of steering, suspension, braking, tyres etc and a fault scan. IIRC even with Hyundai you don't get a book stamp because it's not a service. You'll get a traffic lights style printout at the end of the status of various components. On a new-ish car I wouldn't expect them to find much.

On the flip side, it's no harm really in letting a mechanic have an eye over the car once a year, particularly when it's invited and completely free.

I'm not sure it's a requirement to keep your warranty. But it's a free health check as far as I can recall. they'll probably recommend something needs to be topped up.

Thanks for replies. Does the service have to be done with a Hyundai dealer for the warranty? I imagine it does (chance for them to get cash from you?)

You don't have to have it done by a Hyundai dealer, the only stipulations for the warranty are genuine or equal quality parts are used and the garage is VAT registered (to rule out backstreet outfits). Ideally a receipt from an independent workshop detailing genuine Hyundai part numbers would be ideal.

No, as said above, but make sure its done at the right time/mileage or the warranty will be void! Keep all receipts, they'll want them 4.5 years down the line if you have any issues.

It's not just the warranty, there are TSBs and updates that you will not get at independent garages.

Do they put the car on a rolling road as part of VHC?

I don't know that, what I can tell you is that at 1st health check they rotated the tyre (back-front), did some wiring work (there was a TSB), and washed the car. At the second one, they changed the rear top shock bushes free of charge and skipped the car wash and tyre rotation (they were close to end of life anyway)

Garages don’t generally have rolling roads.

Interesting, neighbour said he set the odometer to zero on arrival at garage and an hour later when he was leaving there was 10km on it.
