folks have a good pb cow that just wont go in calf by ai, never had a problem with her before this year but scanning man says she is perfect but she isnt keeping for whatever reason, my own stock bull is related to her so cant go down that route so wondered about using a neighbours bull next time she is on..
so would i need to do a full transfer of cow over to his herd temporarily while she is bulled or what would happen if i register calf to bull from another herd, presume that wont go thru?

Shouldn't be a problem. You just put in the bulls tag on the registration, if any problems just say the bull broke out. It might be an idea to leave her with bull a day before she's due to come in heat.

would you not potentially be getting the neighbors into trouble then

Sure she might not keep. Have put in a tag number for my dad's stock bull as sire for a couple of calves in my herd no problem. I think you could be making more work for yourself

And more expense. Neighbour will have to tb test the cow before she comes back to you.

My bull broke out to fifteen of my neighbors heifers one year. I had no issue.

I can't see a problem with registrating the calf to a bull in a different herd. A neighboring bull hopping the fence and serving a cow wouldn't be that uncommon and all the resulting calves are registered without any problems.
If the calf is non pedigree and therefore back breeding is unimportant then it may not be necessary to enter a sire code or tag number. This will however have implications for future star ratings and other genetic based programs and should be avoided if possible. However in cases of "imaculate conceptions" or where a weanling may have caught a cow it may not be possible to ascertain the actual sire for recording purposes.
Since genetic testing became more widespread I have seen a few cases where the genetic pedigree differed from the official pedigree. This can be a problem with pedigree cattle who are sold as being out of popular bloodlines and transpire to have different back breeding.
