Toyota Corrolla 1.4 d4d gearbox problem

Looking for some advice or recommendations on the gearbox in my 2010 Corrolla...

Initial problem started when the gears became hard to select when going from 1st to 2nd...Moving to neutral and then 2nd seem to be ok.

Then, approx 3 days later all of a sudden, 1st,2nd 4th and 5th became almost impossible to select. 3rd and 6th would work fine, basically gearbox is now unusable. Have now parked the car up and won't touch anymore. There's no other symptoms noticeable (no noises, revs etc and clutch also seems perfectly fine)

So anyone got past experience like this? I am hearing it may be bearings wore out. Also, hearing I may need to replace entire gearbox!?!?
Cost wise, it sounds expensive!

I've heard of a similar problem on my cousins auris. For her it was a replacement by a reconditioned gearbox by an independent mechanic. Can't remember the costs as it was a number of years ago. However you'd probably have the choice of second hand one these days.
