How to get rid of an airlock in a pumped shower?

Our ensuite shower has an airlock (I think).

In the last few days I've typically had to leave the water running for 5 - 10 minutes before it warmed up. This is not normal, normally it'd take about 10 seconds.
And this morning the warm water didn't come through at all so I gave up on it.

The shower head is attached to the wall and the ensuite shower is fed by an electric pump beside the hot water cylinder.
When I turn on the shower and check the pump the pump is working away and the hot pipe going into the pump and going out of the pump are hot to the touch so it seems like it's working OK.

    Does anybody have any suggestions?

Sounds like a heating element issue

No. I don't think that's right. The hot water comes from the cylinder and it's hot. The pump just pumps from the cylinder, it doesn't heat the water. The other hot taps and shower (not from the pump) all have hot water.

Sounds like the thermostatic valve on the shower has had it. Do you have limescale? (I have and had this issue a few times and changes the valve to resolve)

As DGBOS says, thermostatic cartridge sounds like it's died. It would be worth checking the filter before getting a new cartridge though, just in case

    I followed the instructions here

    last night.

The problem went away immediately and hasn't reappeared yet.

I don't know if that thermostatic cartridge thing could be intermittent and it's just coincidence. I'll know if the problem reappears.
