Thinking of getting a new phone in a month or so & narrowed it down to either of these.
What would peoples preference be & why.
Apart from wireless charging on the mix 3 is there much of a difference.
I'm not overly bothered by the cameras but would appreciate input.

pretty much identical specs on cpu, camera, ram - down to looks.

the mix 3 with the high screen to body ratio due to sliding front camera is pretty cool

    mi 8 has a notch.

although the mi 8 pro version does have that cool transparent back on it. mi mix 3 probably cooler than non-pro mi 8.

so if you're not going to be using a case maybe the mi 8 pro.

as I said- specs pretty much identical - down to looks preference and what price you can get.

camera is better on the xiaomis but oneplus OS closer to stock android.

also the 6t has waterproofing although not officially certified..

can handle a drop into water no issue.

    Hi mate

I have a Xiaomi Mi 8 and I absolutely love it.

I bought the Chinese version which had the "global stable ROM" on it. The phone had lots of Chinese bloatware on it and a good few bugs. It was on android 7.

I the flashed Android Pie ROM (Android V9) from Xiaomi.eu onto it and I also flashed a new kernel onto it from XDA (Sphinx kernel)

Flashing these 2 things onto the phone turned it into an absolute beast. I can get 2.5 days of heavy use on the phone now, Google pay / NFC works great. The bloatware is gone. GPS issues fixed..... The phone is smooth as butter and is the best phone I have ever owned.

I might give lineage OS 16 a try this weekend if I get time but the Xiaomi.eu ROM is great and they release an update every friday :)

Have the mix 3, great phone.
The sliding mechanism is very secure and really great if your a fidgeter.
Everyone I've shown it to has been blown away by it. Had the p20 previously. Great phone but nobody really thought it was a beautiful phone. I suspect the mi8 would be the same
