Well I might have something on it's way from Australia. Though if my wife asks I most definitely don't.
We are talking about Christmas presents to ourselves yeah?

I got this for myself from us. The first of many I'd imagine .

I got two, a Casio Oceanus S100 and a far cheaper Casio wave ceptor M640, for some reason I've been wearing the cheaper M640 much more often. I'm most intrigued by the way they both correct any accumulated timing error each night.

To do that it has an integrated radio receiver and decoder, I'm amazed that it is an easier/cheaper solution compared to say implementing a high accuracy quartz timebase.

Can you imagine the first engineer to put the suggestion forward at a design meeting.Part of the fun of having the two is watching the seconds hands on the pair of them go round in sync.

Loving the Seiko MickA. Really like the very old style cathedral hands. IMHO way better than Mercedes hands. And the seconds hand keeps up the look. :) That's before we get to the two crowns and the case design.

On topic? :o As a pressie to myself I got a... Incoming... Chrimbo/New Years post and all that. *fingers crossed*

First watch I've bought in a long while, but oddly enough brings me right all the way back to being a kid when I got my first watch. And for 27 quid. So...

Not quite a Christmas present, more a January uplift!

I'll never be able to justify an actual Speedy moon watch, and at the moment even the Bulova lunar pilot is beyond the budget.

Then, this popped up for very little...

Trying not to get any new watches at the moment. It's quite difficult though.

Radio sync'd clocks had been around for a long time prior so it was a fairly natural progression to eventually shrink the technology into a watch. I believe Junghans were the first to do it.

When I started seeing them in the 90s I thought they were the coolest thing since sliced bread. In those days I recall calling the talking clock after a power cut or setting the watch off teletext after a battery change..

Obviously with the ubiquity of cell phones nowadays it is not quite so cool/useful to have a watch that sets itself and has perfect time. But still a very neat feature. It will self-adjust for DST which a standalone high-accuracy quartz cannot.

Also got this landed for about €65 . Very good value when you look at the price of these in uk/ire.

Love the movement of the second hand, This watch suits a quartz, i think.

Does it tick or sweep? I think I might justify adding it to an already full collection if it swept like a train station clock..

Don't tell her I said this but I checked it online and it's currently 50% off at Debenhams.

    Real Leather for € 41.45

    Faux Leather for € 26.00

I'd recommend you spend the extra €15 and get the real leather. It's really nice and has a quality feel to it.

    This was my Christmas watch,
I've scratched the face already :(
I suppose the domed crystal doesn't help
But it's worth it for that distortion! , was tentative about the gold scheme but its not too loud, cheers

I should have "you really can't go wrong with Seiko" ready to paste from my clipboard, because it's so true. Liking the gold.

Is the crystal acrylic? That's handy to buff out scratches.

cheers, certainly scratching an affordable itch as
a new enthusiast... my second seiko, and first seiko "diver"
its definitely the pick of them for me aesthetically, (granted its not a proper iso diver)
the result of far too much time on youtube! very happy with it though
pretty sure i'll pick up the blue face too in the future

    its their hardlex crystal
jury's out on how easy it is to polish it out

    cheers

Lovely Seiko, congrats. Shame about scratching so soon but it happens to the best of us.

Seiko use several types of mineral crystals with varying hardness and apply the marketing term 'hardlex' across the board. The hardlex on their mid-range stuff is a little more scratch resistant than what you get on a Seiko 5 or SKX etc. But still nowhere close to sapphire.

Buffing out a scratch on hardlex is outside the scope of the typical hobbyist. In theory it can be done professionally but changing the crystal is cheaper and less hassle.

Seiko Presage Cocktail Time that I've been eyeing for a while. The dial combined with the box crystal make it both an eye-catcher on the wrist and an impossibility to photo. Just need to source a new strap as the one supplied isn't great.

Probably not much demand out in the shticks for watch boxes. :o I remember a few years back in Shannon when the wetsuits came out on a Thursday morning, 'twas like refugees crammed around a food aid helicopter.

There is a thesis for some business student on the different shopping habits of rural vs urban shoppers.

Similar box on amazon for 14 quid, P&P might work out better if you buy 2.

What I meant was they are all sold out in the city, and are still on the shelves in rural areas.
