Court summons for previous tenant

I received a court summons for a previous tenant (didn't open it but can see "Summon" and "Prosecutor: Director of public prosecutions" above "Accused: <person name> <my address>" ). Usually I send everything back with "Return to sender / Not at this address" in the hope it'll reduce unwanted mail, but I'm not sure if that'll cut it for that one? There's no return address and no stamp either, I'm not sure if it was hand-delivered. Does it matter?

Garda could well have hand delivered.

Just write return to sender, unknown at this address.

Let them worry about it it's nothing to do with you.

Great, thank you. Will do that.

Best to hand it in to a local Garda station so they can follow up on it.

If not they'll be back banging on your door again. Just writing it on the envelope won't convince them that the person they're looking for is not there so best to go to the Garda Station. They can fill in the back of the summons stating that the person concerned isn't at that address and return it to the appropriate Garda / Station.

Not always an option for every one, I would have to drive over 30km to find an open Garda station most days.

I ended up handing it in at the local Garda station, just a 30mn walk away for me. I'd already scribbled "return to sender/unknown at this address" all over the envelope and felt a bit silly but I suppose it helped to get the point across :D
