Probably not of earth shaking importance but scrapping a VW Bora which will be 19 years old on the 4th Jan, it still has the original batteries in both fobs.

That is impressive. I just swapped a battery in a fob for my 3yo car.

Do the fobs do remote locking?

My 2001 Bora didn't. Had a tiny little light that came on when you pressed down the VW logo. Impressive if it's a remote central locking key though.

That’s what I’m wondering, it’s even more impressive if the OP has a 00 Bora with remote locking :D

Remote locking it is...it doesn,t have that little light which is in the ones where the central locking is done with the key only, the battery is in the plastic piece into which the key folds and which I called the fob. The key can also be used in a emergency, car was supplied with 2 remote + 1x "plastic" key for emergency use only.

    That’s pretty remarkable.

Just took one apart now, there are 2 X (Panasonic) CR1620 batteries connected in series to give 6V, one read 2.99v, the other 3.02V.
