Citizen Eco Drive

Hi folks, so I have a citizen eco drive which I am about to send back to be repaired but I was wondering if ye have come across this problem before.

I think the battery went dead on it as it wasn't worn for about 3 months although it says it should last for 6 months.

I put it in direct light then for 2 days and it started ticking again although it was jumping 2 seconds at a time which indicates a low charge, so I left it in light for another 3 days.

My issue is now that it is telling me the wrong time on both 12hrand 24hr dials (radio controlled) , day, date and when I do try and change the date all the dials just spin for a min or 2 and then it goes back to the low battery indicator and I can't do anything then unless I leave it in light for a few more hours.

Just wondering if it needs to be sent back or is it something that can be fixed easily? Thanks

First thing to do is to replace the battery. They are quite specific and not cheap I might add so make sure you get the right one.

    See this thread:

Summary: someone was in the same situation as yourself. Most likely the battery needs replacing.

    Thanks folks

Looks like I'll send it back so.

Have a return label ready to go, can't fault watchshop in that regard.

Yes sounds like a similar issue to mine aright. watchshop have received my Seiko back, just waiting on them to let me know what the next steps are.

From your step-by-step description, it sounds very much like you are in the process of bringing the battery back up. I think it would be premature to send it back. You're seeing progress. But you're not giving it enough time. You got it up a little and then ran it straight back down. You don't want to do anything that uses a lot of juice (eg atomic sync, hands whizzing around etc) until the battery is higher.

I have 'resurrected' around 10 solar G-Shocks in similar condition (cheap ebay buys whose owners thought were defective) by leaving them outdoors during the day and under a lamp at night. Sometimes takes over a week to get out of the low batt condition. There really is no substitute for direct sunlight, the power generated outdoors is easily 10x more than a window sill.

Agree with the previous post - I have one basic Citizen eco-drive that I allowed run down completely through lack of use. It took a good week on a Summer window sill to restore and it's fine since.Simple one just day-date non radio.

Thanks for this advice, I woke up this morning and everything was back in working order, I had it left in the car front window for the past couple of days.

Everything is showing the right thing now.

Glad to hear it. For a short time further I would keep it by a window - or outside your sleeve when wearing it outside etc - to ensure it gets fully charged up. Right now it's probably just crept up enough to get it out of low-batt.

Once it's fully charged they are generally low maintenance and should stay topped up from normal day-to-day use without any special measures. Every now and then they can fall low due to not getting enough light during the winter months, being stored in the dark. It happens, it's fairly rare though. I have a lot of solar watches - they sit in a watch box with the lid open and that's usually enough to keep them all on H.

My Eco drive has gone twice in a year. I sent it back to be fixed early last year and its gone again. My own faylt I suppose and I only wear it now and again and foolishly I stored it in the box. Does not seem to be recharging. Dont think I can be arsed sending it back again.
