Laptop for a 12 year old.

My 12 year old is in sixth class, she wants to teach herself to type before she commences Secondary School in September. She has fine motor issues which affect her ability to write for long periods of time (writing for anymore than 15 minutes is extremely painful).

I would be grateful for recommendations for a good basic laptop, I don’t want to spend a lot of money as I will upgrading when she starts Secondary School (if the Dept. of Education approve her application to use assistive technology).

Depends on usage but if you want to avoid frustration with regards speed for most applications then the second one with the i5. You don't need a kick-ass machine for secondary school either. The i5 is better future proofed in that respect.

Thanks for that Damien. I should hopefully pick something up in the sales for €500 - €600.

that i5 is an old i5. current i3's are faster. also has a slow hard drive (non-ssd) and only 4gb ram

can't always generalise like that.

this is a much better option. full hd display, 8gb ram, fast ssd hard-drive. fast 4-core modern i5.

the same old 2-core i5 (one I linked has 4 cores and runs faster) and only 4gb ram.

you can manage just about with 4gb ram on win 10 but to allow for a few years down the line, probably not.

spend the extra on the one that I linked for the extra ram and more powerful cpu that will stay current longer.
