January Sales - New Laptop

I'm starting a computing course next month and will need to pick up a new laptop. Hoping to get a good deal in the January sales.

Budget is around €1,000, if the laptop is suitable to play games too that would be a bonus
Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Specs required:
- A suitable configuration is 6GB of RAM (8GB or more are recommended);
- a 64-bit x86 processor (Intel i5 or superior);
- 250+ GB of hard disk;
- wifi card; and a recent installed release of Windows operating system

what is more important - portability and lightness or gaming / gpu power?

these are fairly mutually exclusive.

Everything there except gaming can be got for well under €1000. You can even get ones that have low end graphics cards for under €1000 but they won't be great for gaming.

What size/weight are you thinking?

you can get a laptop with an nvidia 1060 card these days for less than €1000 that will be good for gaming - will run games at 1080p high settings at 60fps

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I'm interested in trying out one of the Xiaomi laptops as have heard good things.
Would this be suitable for my above specs do you think?

they are decent laptops but coming from China you'll get hit for VAT @ 23%

you'd want to be looking at the mx150 verison for a bit of graphics power.


also if you have an issue with it the guarantee of sending back to China to gearbest won't be fun.
