Just arrived in Galway. Herself's car feels like wheel bearing gone... Gets worse at speed but engine sounds fine.
Need to get back to Shannon tonight.
Just looking to get advice as to whether it will be safe to drive back?

Have you checked the tyre pressures and for any bulges on one of the tyres?

Is it coming from one corner?
Also, what mileage is on the car?

No one here will know without looking at it.
If you know which corner it is coming from you could jack it up an inch or so off the ground and rock the wheel at top and bottom each side to check for play. Rock the steering aswell.

It’s not going to tell you everything but if somethings very loose it may. Obviously spin the wheel aswell and see how it sounds... could be something rubbing etc.
    wheelnuts tight??
If your not sure yourself don’t take it on the motorway.

Thanks for the advice lads. We we're lucky enough that we had been away for Christmas so we had two cars with us. So I sent herself home with the kids in my car and I limped hers home. Nice and slowly!
Will get it to the mechanic in the morning
    Thanks again

My sister had a similar noise on her car and was told by a so called mechanic that it was the gearbox and it needed to be replaced when in fact it was nothing to do with the gearbox but it was to do with a very lose and worn bearing, bushing on one of the front wheels. A common known problem on the make of car she has. The gearbox was going to cost over 900 euro to be replaced when the problem only cost a third of that and was far more dangerous as the wheel could have came of on the motorway at high speed.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
