I have a forth calf cow Lim cow that used to have buckets of milk and last year I noticed her at grass that she was almost dry five months after she calfed. She calfed again today and I struggled to get 1 liter off her. Now she is only dry 8 weeks and I figure that’s it. She could have raised three calf’s during her first and second lactation. She is a sucking cow in good order but the calf was lathergic so I milked her down and stomach tubed her. I could not dry her any sooner as I building a shed and I no where to separate her from the calf during her last lactation. She’s in body score of around 2.75. Any suggestions

Ok. I was thinking low in a hormone. Never thought of johne’s. Dosed her with levafas diamond and bolused her with two cosecure. Will definitely blood test her.

The fact she is in good condition and has made it yo her 4th calving would sort of rule out johnes to me. But get her tested anyway to rule it out. Is she scoury at all?

The vet said similar to me with a seven year old cow which proved to have it after I convinced him to test for it.

No scour, dosed, all good health wise. I am going to keep an eye on her over the next week and see does she come to milk. Definitely blood test in the new year

Ye there's always an odd one. At the johnes meeting last year they were saying some cows don't show proper symptoms and are culled for another reason before they start to scour/fail. I had a 10 year old cow test positive last year.

In addition to the suggestions above, I'd get her checked for an LDA, just in case, and palpate her udder for signs of chronic mastitis. If she's in worse condition than comparible cows something is amiss.
