I was hoping for some help, im starting a new job in approx 2-3 months(it is being held up by going through clearance). so i am finishing my current job this week ( i needed to give plenty of notice in this job due to apts etc). I will be working on and off covering staff in my current job but it will only be part time. I was wondering If i am eligible for part time job seekers allowance...whilst waiting for my new job to start.

    Definitely not. You're leaving voluntarily.

Apply for your jpbseekers/unemployment assistance but inform your welfare office when you have worked.
I used get the odd day of casual work while unemployed and i notified them and they deducted a day's worth of dole - no issue whatsoever.
Is your part time hours definite or only as cover or as needed?

I will be covering for a month, and then just a day or two a week

Forget about leaving voluntarily as mentioned above, you are leaving to start a new job. That is a valid reason.

The main question here is are you available and looking for full time work while waiting for the new job to start.

If yes then absolutely go and make your claim.

If your covering and still on the payroll you should still be able to claim ypur stamps since you've been paying into it.

Leaving a job by choice doesn't disqualify you from claiming social welfare. They'll want a lot of info from you, so call to an office or citizens information to see what documents you'll need to bring. They can be slow moving.
