Can you get points on a UK licence for a speeding offence here?
I remember hearing before they were bringing that in but can't find out for sure?

No. There was supposed to be a cross border thing where if you were banned in Ireland the same ban would apply in NI and UK but it was never enacted and chances are with Brexit it never will be either.

I got sent notification and if i remember it basically stated that they would be added to my Irish licence.

When I traded back in UK licence for original Irish licence there were no points on it.

Same happened in reverse in UK but I had moved house and changed car in interim.

So, they just sent the fine to your UK address?

There is no mechanism for applying points received in the UK to an Irish licence.

What does happen here and possibly in the UK is that a ghost licence is created in your name and if you amass 12 points here and you are from UK/NI then you are banned from driving here but not in UK, same applies to someone from Ireland accruing points in NI/UK.

I was pulled over in my car with Irish plates just after I got home.

Fine was sent to Irish address where car was registered.

But they cant apply points to your irish Licence, they create a ghost licence in your name and the points go on it and they only apply if you are driving in the UK (and have amassed enough to put you off the road)

Yes that's what happened me here and in UK.
As I said in my first post

You will get the points added to your Irish "driving record" which will stick around for three years. I still have the RSA letters for mine.

One thing to note is that I believe they will only issue the FCN notice to the address on the GB licence. If that address isn't current it could be an issue as you won't get the notice to be able to pay it.
