Just started a few minutes ago, RTE are doing a modern television re-enactment of the 1918 election, seems like a novel idea, haven't seen any of it so far so don't know if it's good or a car crash :o

An odd viewing experience. The acting is so bad it kinda takes you out of it.

Bit of a cringefest tbh. One of the panelists is a young /old woman hybrid.. Somebody should have told David McCullock that he who controls the spice controls the universe.
The Doc from Trinity college claims young men are beginning to vote so the can meet girls.

Thompson Donald just delivered a savage blow upon Winnifred Carney.

I actually think it's really great. Brings it alive for people who'd never read a history book about this election. Some absolute gems of comments casting shade at Brexit as well.

This is facepalm stuff. That woman on about the mother leaving in the famine was enough.

It's a lot better than usual docu-drama stuff. Excellent effort IMHO

Thought it was a very good idea and really showed what a monumental and historic election that was. I do find Irish history very interesting.

Just don't get why people in the studio wore modern dress whilst the reports wore clothing from the period.

A lot of it was still very relevant to today's Brexit border issues.

Found it unwatchable it was so cringeworthy. I tend to agree with Professor Mary Beard on these historical shows that have actors in them:
Prof Mary Beard says historical reconstructions are “excruciating” and she agrees to front TV documentaries only if there is a ban on anyone appearing in period costume.

The TV presenter and historian said she would tell producers there must be “no drama reconstructions in any programme made by me; no B-list actors dressed up in sheets, saying ‘Do pass the grapes, Marcus.’

“I insisted … there should be none of those awful scenes where some none-too-good actors pretend to be Romans at a banquet or recreate the scene of the death of Socrates or whatever.”

I find RTE and TG4 often tarnish very good programmes by including UCD/TCD Dramsoc types more interested in achieving their 'big break' with some hammy performance.

i would have much preferred a documentary type programme about the election. What I saw was awful.
