Asperger's and anxiety in the elderly

My elderly relative has always been an anxious person and it turns out now that he is most likely on the autistic spectrum, at the very mildest end. However as we age any anxiety can become worse and now following a health setback his anxiety is constant with moments when it is heightened. He's not sleeping very well and appetite is not good.

GP is talking about SSRIs or the like but was hoping someone here might be able to point us in the right direction to find some support, websites or anything to help him get over this episode. Especially if he goes ahead with the medication as I understand it can take several weeks for the effect to be felt.
