Irish Solicitor working abroad

    Hi all,

I’m mid way through my traineeship as a solicitor and I’ve decided that I don’t want to stay in the country when I qualify.

I’ve done some research, but finding it hard to find info on qualifying abroad. Canada is probably my number one choice, and one that makes sense given our similar legal systems. Can anyone tell me how I would qualify as a solicitor in Canada once qualified here?

Another possibility is the US, maybe California. I know I will have to sit the California bar exam, but I’ve read that English and welsh solicitors have a fast track route to qualifying in California so I wonder when I’m qualified in Ireland will that apply to me also? Also, what would my chances be like of getting a job in California as a foreign attorney?

    TIA
