I am on disability allowance. I will inherit a half acre of land from a parent, and as part of a family settlement regarding inheritance of a farm, my brother agreed to pay to build a house that I would own on that land.

How should I approach this? How are the Department of Social Protection likely to react?

I was in a similar position.

The property you live in does not count as assets as far as social welfare is concerned. It makes it even easier if your brother is building the house because no money is passing through your hands.

You only need to inform DA in Longford once you have moved into the house as it will be a change of address.

How did DA in Longford react when you informed them that you owned a new house?

What documentation did the DA office in Longford require? What other information did they require?
