On observation

Failed test number 4 in Raheny today with the main issue and the two grade 3s related to observations, on right turns in particularly.

The tester said I was examining too quickly for his liking and he felt I wasn’t making the turn properly, which I take as a fair criticism.

The issue is that with all my tests I’ve been swinging back and forth between being too conservative when it comes to observing, i.e. letting the too much traffic go by and ignoring obvious gaps to being too quick and not apparently observing enough. I correct the problem for examiner A but examiner B fails me on that correction and asks me to do the opposite, which examiner C then fails me on and examiner D then swung back to examiner B’s position today.

This is quite frustrating as everything else went well.

Just wondering if anyone can offer some advice on observations that would help with the testers. I did a pretest this morning and I was told to observe everything but it was a general comment rather than specific like after the test.

Short of taking out a map and cartographic equipment I’m searching for any advice outside of practice, which i continue to do, that can help demonstrate to testers that I am observing.

What were the 2 grade 3s for? Grade 3 is generally a pretty serious error.

I understand how you feel it can be quite frustrating feeling like each examiner has different standards. I found watching youtube videos helpful to gauge how what observation checks should be made and how long for. Dane Tyghe has a good channel with quite a few videos on observation in different scenarios etc.
