NCT advisory

My car went through the NCT the other day.

In the results I had one major result which I've had repaired. But under the visual defects it mentions one of my tyres and under result it just says advisory.

Is this something I would need to have replaced before the retest or assuming the work done to the major fault is okay should the car pass with this advisory?

No its only advisory (the tyre is obviously near the wear limit or is over the recommended age limit) but you don't need to replace it for the retest however if its worn then I would get it replaced anyway especially as its now winter and you have the risk or ice/snow on the roads.

The legal limit for tyres is 1.6mm they will give advisory pass if it is at or below 3mm.

You also get advisory if the tyres are 6 years old or more.
    It's just a heads-up, not a "must"

I have a set of winter tyres on my winter car that are 16yrs old however they were stored in a dry warm garage for years and the rubber is very soft and pliable as it should be and there is no perishing or damage anywhere. They weren't even marked as advisory on the NCT sheet as i'd say the tester never even looked at the date as they look so new.
