Proof of address from years ago

Hi there. I'm trying to apply for Irish citizenship before Brexit hits but am stick on the proof of address. I've lived at the same address since moving here in 2001 and have 3 copies of proof for most years (need one or two extra for years 03/04/05/07) but have NOTHING for the year 01?!! All bills were set up in my husband's name by his family (we moved onto his family's land next door to the home house) to make our move a little easier for us. I didn't add my name to things until the following year. Any suggestions as to how I can provide proof of address in three forms for that first year, and would I be able to get old Eircom bills from somewhere for the other years I'm missing? Thanks in advance
    Cyndi

You only need to have lived here for 5 years to apply for citizenship by naturalisation so I'm not sure why you're looking for 17 year old documents?

That's what I thought, but I was talking to a fellow Brit a while ago who seemed convinced you needed them for the entire duration of your residence here, in his case about 40 years! Doesn't make sense to me, but who knows.

I'm in the same kind of situation regarding the proof of address stuff. Now, I'm a bit of a hoarder, so it's not a problem physically finding the bits of paper, but when we moved here, my wife moved here first, so most things are in her name.

There's a few things in our joint names, but the biggest problem might be that my first name is misspelt on a lot of the bills in my name only. I have an unusual spelling of a very common first name, and despite my best efforts to correct it, people keep correcting it back again to what they think it should be. I'd given up trying, thinking it wouldn't be important, but in this case I wonder if I'll have any problems?

The form actually asks for proof of address for each year if residence claimed. Seems crazy to me?!

Yeah, and with the cost of the application, you want to make sure everything is right!

Just claim 5 years, problem solved.

So the fact that I have lived here for 18 years doesn't matter, I can CHOOSE how many years of residence to claim? My passport will show I first entered the country in 2001 but I don't have to tell them where I was until 2013? That doesn't seem right either?

Exactly. It should be just a formality, but you can bet your bottom dollar that the tiniest omission or error will result in it being refused. If that happens, you have to resubmit the application, and no refund of the original application fee.
