Hi, doing an extension and will need timber purlins in roof, 9x3 Also about 20 6x3. Do these need to be kiln dried or graded or will rough sawn do?.

    Thanks

All structural timber must be stress graded and have limited moisture content. Google IS: 444 or the latest code which is Eurocode 5 for details

AFAIK all softwood construction timber in Ireland is kiln dried. Rough sawn vs PAO is just finishing.

So just get regular construction timber.

The only irritating thing I've found with ordering timber is some builders providers have a lucky dip of PAO and rough sawn, and unless you pick it up yourself you have no guarantee of what you're getting. If doesn't matter if it's nailed wood-wood, but if you're using metal hangers the PAO doesn't fit quite right.
