    Hi all,

have been specified 9 X 2 joists for a little job I am doing but head height is a problem so was given an alternative to use 7 X 3 joists but cannot seem to locate this anywhere. I am in the west. Anyone have any ideas where I could find this?

    Thanks in advance

Might be worth trying a local sawmill, I see West's in Ballina cutting all sorts of sizes of timber. No idea about seasoning etc, most of what they do seems to be very fresh cut.

    6x3 will be doable also.

    Thanks lads,

Ford, 6 X 3 would be weaker and don't know if this will be strong enough. The unsupported span is 4.25 metres for an attic conversion.

Add more of them obviously. I could tell you how far apart they need to be but your engineer wouldn’t agree.

    thanks again lads,

Ford, imagine my engineer is open to suggestions. What would be your practical solution?

When you cleat Kevin you mean sister them together?

    Cheers lads

How far apart is your engineer happy with the 7x3? 16 inch centre?

Never heard it being called That! Yup, m10*150 bolts, countersink the heads, a lot of work though. Not too well up on the structural integrity though, others might know.
