I had a look today at the brand new 1.2 PULSAR SV EVECUTIVE. €20,800 -€21,000. There is none available in most NISSAN garages but I did come across 2. They are saying thats the end of them, I wonder what are Nissan bringing out instead of the PULSAR. Will I buy now & get the 4.000 scrappage deal or hang on to see whats next. They are a nice car!!

They are not replacing the Pulsar as it was a poor seller for them.

bazz Thanks for your reply! I heard since, the LEAF has become more popular so they are pushing sales. Actually, I thought the PULSAR was OK. I have been buying Nissan for the last 15 years & like the make.

For the space on offer in them I think they're good value. Not bad to drive and full of extras. Everyone just wants a Qashqai

I have been researching a Hyundai i30 Hatch Back & Fast Back now (on-line only). It says UP to €5000 scrappage. Any opinions on this!!

They’re just trying to put a positive spin on their inability to come up with a credible Golf rival.

    Several good reasons for this.

Seems like no length ago since Nissan were making great play of how they were re entering this class now only to leave it again. Seems a pity as the Pulsar seemed like a decent car for the money.

My take on it is that they thought there was going to be a bigger swing back to petrol and the pulsar is a good hatch that's small and light. However it seems us irish are either happier to accept higher fuel consumption on suv type cars or the pull of the tdi in the golf/skoda is still too strong.

It does amaze me that we'll pay the up front cost to buy a tractorery diesel that will require less fuel and lower car tax, even though we will not drive enough km to mean a lower total cost of ownership.

Of course the equalisation of tax on diesel and petrol never materialised, so that didn't help. Now it's electric and they are a different bred.

Diesel hating rants aside. The compact family car market is still jam packed with competition and you need to be at the top of your game to compete in it. The Pulsar simply wasn't top of it's game nor was ever designed to be as it would take sales directly from it's more popular sibling the Qashqai. The Pulsar was simply there as a alternative for someone who didn't want a Qashqai rather than a rival. I'd imagine the new Leaf will provide a compact family car alternative to the Qashqai over the next few years as EVs become more the norm in that segment.

    What this space.

    Changes are afoot.

A couple of my local forecourts have gone from a 10c difference in petrol v diesel last month to equal now.

This change isn’t to to with taxation though?

Barrel of oil has been dropping, few months ago I paid 1.49 for petrol now its 1.36 in places

Diesel derived fuel is more in demand this time of year in the northern hemisphere which drives up the wholesale/retail price.
