I've an 2008 IS220D for the past few two years. I bought it as my first car (26 at the time but I'd being driving company cars before that and had full licence etc) so insurance was cheap.

I've being toying with the idea of moving it on tbh I don't need a car that size while its being reliable it is a bit of pig on diesel and a bit of barge. If I was looking it'd be next year (probably towards the middle of the year), I'd be thinking I'd have around 10k to play with and being young free and single I want something a bit more sporty and up the years for insurance purposes.

But I can't seem to find something in that range that sticks out. Want something sporty (hot hatches or a GT86). The other non sporty options I'd consider would be an a3 saloon or is300h but I don't think there under 10k out of the uk yet. I was considering old bigger engined Audi's or BMW's but I'd be worried someone would try the house for the keys and potential bills

The other option is just to keep the Lexus and run it until it breaks or rusts away theirs only 94000 miles on the clock and the only thing wrong with it is a squeeky drivers seat and damaged shift boot mechanically its A1.

Is there anything around the 10-12k mark worth looking at ideally from 2013 or newer worth considering ?

How much do you think the Lexus you have is worth?

No one really wants them so I reckon if I was to sell next year I'd be lucky to get 2k for it even though its on the cheap tax its still 570 for the year, insuring cars over ten years now is a bit of a pain.

I think the car is worth feck all.

    It's nowhere near a barge.....

It has the chocolate engine and they give huge issues unfortunately.

    Get something more economical

It's the first and last Lexus ever to run on diesel.

Lads I'm looking for suggestions here, I know the car is worth feck all, I know they can be prone to blowing the head gaskets and coking up and the 6th gear is unusable, At the end of the day I like the car, it owes me nothing.

But after two years with it I'd fancy a change budget would be around 10k. I don't need something that does 70mpg. I don't particularly need a diesel but I would like something that's a bit lighter on its feet

    can't beat the fiesta st..
I drive a 3litre 5 series and if the missus ever gets her act together and starts driving I'd be picking one of those up for myself and dumping the beamer.

The fiesta ST isn't something I thought .

I take it you have a 530d ? A lad in work had one (07ish shape) and raves about it, I've driven a X5 and liked it but I've heard some horror stories about bills on BMW's and I'd worry someone would try the house for the keys now these fears might be unfounded.

There similar tax to the Lexus afaik and I'd imagine day to day running costs would be about the same.

Financially you're better off running it as you rightly know it's worth nothing. But if you fancy a change that's different.

It's hard not to recommend a TSI Golf or variation of them such as a Leon. 1.4TSI or bigger not the 1.2. Can be gotten in a good spec, reasonable to drive and should be in budget. Your biggest issue will be lack of choice in Ireland however.
