950 Euro for cancellation fee.

    Hello,

    I had book an consultation with a law firm in Dublin regrading my business issue but on the morning of the appointment I realized I wouldn’t be able to getting out of another important meeting on time. I asked my assistant to call the law firm to cancel the appointment and we agreed to pay from 80 to 120 euro for the cancellation fee but they send me the bill for 950 euro which I think is rediclous. I’m from one of the most expensive country to live in the world but 950 euro is way too much for a missing appointment anywhere.

    I haven’t paid the bill. I would love to hear what ye think before taking any action. Many Thanks.

    What did you agree with them when booking the meeting?

    I haven’t agreed anything. I was on the phone to them so we just confirmed date and time. I didn’t sign any agreement nor they told me the cancellation fee in advance and I have checked their company website and cancellation fee isn’t listed either.

    Well there you go.

    They didnt mention a cancellation fee when you made the booking so thats the end of that.

    You didnt sign any contracts so there is no way they can possibly enforce any payment. Surely as a law firm they should be aware of this and if i were you i would find another law firm to do business with if they are this incompetent.

    They are unlikely to sue you for the fee but they clearly don't want you as a client. Better get yourself another solicitor and organise your affairs properly.

    Did they maybe do some preparation for the meeting? Or was it a first consultation?

    A very fair point especially if they had to spend "billable" hours reading a set of papers prior to the consultation.
