I see Dana Rosemary Scallon has won her libel action in the north against a tabloid which printed fake news. Fair play to her. Is it time to toughen up laws against serious cases of slander here in the republic?

They falsely accused her of covering up child abuse so obviously the compensation had to be substantial.

That reminds me, was there some other scandal pertaining to abuse of some sort involving Sinn Féin? Also was there something about in-party bullying? The sinners are quick to point the finger of blame at others like the Catholic Church, but are they being hypocritical?

I have no gripe with the SF aspiration for the unification of the country. As a nationalist I agree with unification but I would not like to live in a leftist country. A nation once again is fine but a socialist nation? No thank you!

Nitpick: She didn't win her action. She settled it before trial.

I think the defamation laws in the Republic are pretty much the same as in NI.

A "six-figure" settlement, according to the newspaper reports. That would be in sterling.

Careful, now! You don't want to find yourself being sued for defamation! :)
