Advertisement of job vacancies in financial institutions.

At my local credit union, some long-serving employees accepted voluntary redundancy as part of the cutting of costs. In their place, there are some younger employees.

As far as I know, there were no advertisements for job vacancies in the credit union at the time.

Considering that financial institutions are subject to State regulation, are they not legally obliged to advertise job vacancies so that all people who may be eligible for the jobs have a chance to apply?

As far as you know, or just a plain spoof?

A friend of mine who is one of those who took voluntary redundancy didn't see the jobs advertised either!

Then the positions were filled internally, and not beyond the parameters of legality. At the same time, I have sympathy for your friend. Younger = cheaper, ruthless ethos.

I simply mentioned the issue in conversation with my friend, who accepted the voluntary redundancy package. My friend is OK.

It was voluntary redundancy, there is no legal reason they cannot fill the role with whoever they want.
