Ford Ka heater won't turn off even in off mode.

I have a 2007 Ford Ka, only 50k miles on the odometer. It`s a recent purchase for my mother and I have noticed that the heater / blower is still omitting hot air even when the heater system is fully turned off. I can close the vents to prevent most of the heat entering the inside of the car but the vents are getting very very hot when i do this.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem before? Any idea what the issue might be? Why it won`t turn off?

Have you turned the thermostat dial down?

The valve that controls heat to the heater matrix inside the car maybe stuck or inoperative, check that valve first.
Also check your coolant level when cold and make sure it has enough coolant.

I bought the car approx one week ago and noticed on the day of purchase that the coolant container was nearly empty. I topped it up and now a week later, it doesn`t seem to have lost any more fluid since the top up.

Where would this valve be that you refer to?

Sure just let the windows down, that'll sort it.

Its a feature on the Ka, it keeps your hands warm when you are pushing it.

Used to have a 04 KA (assume yours is the original shape as 07 is right on the cusp).

It had this issue, it was a common enough (I'm told). It needed a heater control unit in the dash.

Drove around with the windows open (as jokingly suggested above) and in shorts and t-shirt (if I wasn't going to work) until it was fixed. Got some strange looks as it was February.

The temperature dial on the dash.

If it's set all the way to hot, warm air will come in to the cabin via whatever vents are selected on the other switch ( dash/feet/windscreen demister/mix) , just not with the assiatance of the blower if it's switched off. Turn it to cold and see does it stop putting put heat.
