Buying trailers off donedeal

How safe is it, I know there a probaly plenty of genuine adds but I'm sure there's many that aren't , how safe is it buying a second hand trailer? Currently looking for a 8x5 sheep box but would only be used a few times in the year and don't fancy buying brand new one but also don't fancy buying a second hand one thst could be stolen

Ask the seller for the chassis number on the trailer before you go to look at it, and check it with the manufacturer, chances are they won't give you the number if it's dodgy

It might cost a bit more, but you could by second hand from a reputable trailer dealer. It will probably come fully serviced and road worthy too....

I brought an 8x5 last year. Turned out the seller knew someone I used to work with. I sold my 8x4 off it a few weeks later, that turned out well too. You can be lucky but let the buyer beware!

There was a Ford Ranger with a Williams trailer full of sheep and a dog stolen from a filling station in Carlow last Friday, don't leavie your keys in the ignition.

All have been recovered since in Castlecomer

I was the same as yourself and was pricing trailers off donedeal. Called in to a local dealer and bought a similar trailer for the
same price as those advertised on donedeal plus it was after getting a complete set of brakes all round. Try the dealers, if you have no trade in you'll get a good deal

I pulled in to a filling station the other day and there sitting in the car park was a grand fresh galvanised 6x4 trailer sitting unhitched, unattended and separately a 17 VW Transporter with the keys in the ignition engine running . I went in paid got served in shop and came out and they were still there.

That's two guys who didn't get the email in one place at the same time.
No wonder the thieves are prospering.

Take your time and you’ll know the right trailer when it comes along. I always think a genuine person will sell you a genuine trailer. Or alternatively, save up a little extra and wait longer to get yourself a new trailer if at all possible. Buy the right one and you’ll get years out of it. Often not much between a clean secondhand vs a new trailer.
