Irish forecourts

Anyone else sad to see the demise of the big names on Irish forecourts.

Of the big supermajors, we only have Texaco left. Shell, BP and Esso all gone. Even Statoil was a recognised international brand from an oil company.

Is this an international trend with non oil companies such as Couchetard buying up forecourts?

Have to wonder how long Texaco branding will remain in Ireland.

I don't see what the difference is to be honest. Statoil bought out the old BP brand, then most of the Esso branded stations became Statoil who in turn was sold to Circle K. You then have the likes of Inver, Great Gas and Apple Green. The number of Texaco branded fillings stations has declined for years, at least down this way. All of these forecourts are either franchises or independently owned. The money isn't really made on fuel by the forecourt but rather the others stuff people buy from the forecourt when they are getting fuel.

Are you sure? When did that happen.?

I know that TOP was bought by Irving Oil, who also bought the Whitegate oil refinery in cork.

Maxol, Applegreen, Circle K, Texaco are probably the most common, although texaco is on the decline.

GreatGas, Campus and Top seem to be around too.

Not a lot of variation in the market but sure its not like we need too much, cars are on the decline, they're all a lot more fuel efficient than years ago, fuel has very little profit in it due to taxation. Its an industry that really needs franchising to support itself.

It makes not one jot of difference.
